ACCESS STATEMENT FOR “THE LOOKOUT” BED & BREAKFAST
INTRODUCTION
The Lookout is situated in a quiet area near Porthcressa beach on St. Mary’s, the
largest of the islands that make up the Isles of Scilly. It is run by Pam and Mike
Thomas, who are committed to ensuring that the needs of all their guests are met
at all times. They will make sure that guests have the most enjoyable and comfortable
stay possible. However, the bedrooms are all on the first floor and therefore not
suitable for wheelchair users, or anyone who has difficulty in negotiating stairs.
PRE-ARRIVAL
- Prior contact can be made either by telephone or letter. (Details below).
- Access statement available by mail.
- Leaflets available by mail.
- The various methods of travel to the Isles of Scilly can be discussed over the telephone
or sent to guests by letter.
- If arriving by boat, the distance from the St Mary’s quay to The Lookout is 775 yards,
and is a level walk. Carriers will deliver your bags from the quay to The Lookout
soon after your arrival, for a small fee. (On the day of departure and on request,
the carriers will collect your luggage prior to sailing).
- A shuttle bus or taxi is available to bring you from the airport/heliport, and will
either drop you at the door, or to a drop-off point some 220 yards away. Your bags
will be with you, and if you would like help to carry them from the drop-off point
to The Lookout, please let us know when booking your stay.
- The main shopping area is approximately 545 yards away.
ARRIVAL
- Please advise us of your intended arrival time, and we will ensure that we are here
to greet you.
- To ensure your accommodation is ready, we have a check-in time of 11am. However,
if you do arrive earlier, you are very welcome to leave your bags here and come back
later, or in the case of inclement weather, use our guests’ lounge.
- We always offer assistance with luggage.
- There is a doorbell situated to the left hand side of the main entrance door, at
a height of 4 feet from the floor. Please use this on your first arrival.
- There is a security light over the main entrance for ease of access at night.
MAIN ENTRANCE
- There are three steps up to the main door, with 7” risers and 11” treads. The doorway
is 32” inches wide.
- The entrance hall is 17’ 6” long and 59 inches wide. There are two small drinks
coolers for guests’ drinks to the left on entering the hall.
- The entrance hall is carpeted (short pile). Apart from two small mats the hall has
a long pile rug.
- The hall is well lit.
- The dining room/ guest lounge is accessed from the entrance hall.
- We do not have restricted opening hours. Guests are issued with front door and room
keys. We do ask that guests show consideration at all times for others during their
stay with us, especially when using the main door late at night.
- The kitchen can be found at the far end of the entrance hall.
